Art and Well-being
The term “flow” is used to describe being involved in an activity which is engaging and can calm the mind. Some psychology research seems to suggest that those who experience flow more regularly tend to be happier than those who don’t. Drawing can be an excellent way to achieve this. The point of the drawing is not to produce a beautiful crafts object, which others may judge you on- it is simply, and much more importantly, to help us see and experience our lives. In that sense there is no real way to make a failed drawing. There are certainly drawings we can learn a lot from - but the experience of sitting, looking, seeing and flowing are infinitely more valuable than the paper product. Conversely- if we can let go of the tendency to over criticise ourselves and just play with drawing the results quickly become stronger.
Don’t worry, just draw!
